203 Main is a revitalization of a once prominent Ames downtown department store. The two tenant space experienced years of historically and contextually incongruent modifications and was falling into disrepair. JCorp was tasked with structural analysis of the building, developing potential tenant infill options for live/work studios above street level retail, and designing a facade that restored the character of the building. It was key to identify, retain, and preserve the form and detailing of architectural features that define historic character in order for the client to obtain a newly implemented historic facade improvement grant being offered by the city to improve the fabric of its historic downtown. 203 Main is now the home of Design on Main. It is a satellite facility for classes, exhibitions, and community outreach for the College of Design at Iowa State University.
